Jahkil Jackson โ Blessing Bags
Name: Jahkil Jackson ย |ย State: Illinois ย |ย Known for: Founder of Project I Am
When Jahkil Jackson was only five years old, he helped his aunt distribute food to people experiencing homelessness in Chicago. Seeing people living without homes, warm clothing, and basic necessities deeply affected him. Jahkil wanted to help every person find a home, but he soon learned that such a large problem could not be solved overnight.
Instead of becoming discouraged, Jahkil asked himself what he could do immediately.
At eight years old, he began assembling "Blessing Bags" โ packages containing socks, toothbrushes, toothpaste, deodorant, hand sanitizer, wipes, snacks, bottled water, and other essential items. With help from family and friends, he distributed the bags to people living on the streets and in homeless shelters around Chicago.
What began as one child's compassionate idea grew into Project I Am, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping people experiencing homelessness. Jahkil encouraged other young people to participate, proving that community service is not limited to adults. Schools, businesses, youth groups, and volunteers eventually joined his effort.
The Every Choice Matters Lesson
Jahkil did not wait until he was older, richer, or more powerful to help people. He asked what he could do right now โ and then he did it.
You do not need to solve an entire problem to make a real difference. One act of kindness, one bag of supplies, one invitation to sit together โ these choices matter more than you may realize.
Your age is not a barrier. Your compassion is a strength. What could you do this week to help someone in your community?
