Walter Elias Disney was born on December 5, 1901, in Chicago, Illinois.

From an early age, Walt loved drawing. He sketched farm animals, people, and scenes from everyday life whenever he had the opportunity. His imagination was always active, and he dreamed of creating stories that would make people smile.

Life, however, was not always easy.

His family moved several times during his childhood, and money was often tight. Walt worked long hours delivering newspapers before school, sometimes waking in the middle of the night to complete his route.

The work was difficult, especially for a young boy, but it taught him discipline, responsibility, and the importance of perseverance.

Those lessons would later become just as valuable as his artistic talent.

As Walt grew older, he became determined to pursue a career as an artist.

Many people thought animation was little more than a novelty. Few believed it could become a serious business or an important form of entertainment.

Looking back, losing Oswald turned out to be one of the greatest turning points of his life.

During a train ride back to California after losing Oswald, Walt began imagining a new character.

That character became Mickey Mouse.

Mickey quickly captured the hearts of audiences around the world. His cheerful personality and adventurous spirit helped launch Disney Studios into international success.

The lesson is powerful: if Walt had never lost Oswald, the world might never have known Mickey Mouse.

Sometimes what appears to be a devastating loss is actually preparing us for something even greater.

Walt ignored the criticism. He believed in his vision.

When Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs premiered in 1937, it became one of the greatest successes in movie history and transformed the animation industry forever.

His willingness to take calculated risks created opportunities that others considered impossible.

Years later, Walt dreamed of building a completely different kind of amusement park.

He envisioned a place where families could enjoy clean, safe, imaginative experiences together.

Many people doubted the idea. Banks hesitated to provide financing. Business experts predicted failure.

After years of planning and construction, Disneyland opened in 1955. Although opening day experienced several unexpected problems, Walt continued improving the park.
