Start with safe habits every time you cook.
- Wash your hands and clean the work area.
- Read the recipe and gather ingredients before you begin.
- Use a stable cutting board.
- Turn pot and pan handles away from the edge of the stove.
- Never leave the stovetop unattended.
- Keep flammable items away from heat.
- Separate raw foods from ready-to-eat foods.
- Follow Clean, Separate, Cook, and Chill food-safety practices.
- Use a food thermometer: poultry 165°F, ground meat 160°F, and whole cuts 145°F.
